The Music Room

I make music that tells stories, follows the seasons, and encourages connection with the world around and within us.

A Gentle Guide to Listening

There was a time when listening to music was an event.

You would save up for a record, bring it home, place it carefully on the turntable, and sit with it.

You didn’t skip. You didn’t shuffle. You listened all the way through.

If you wanted to learn the words, you listened again.

And again.

Sometimes writing the lyrics down by hand, straight from the sound.

Listening has changed since then. Music now travels with us everywhere, often slipping quietly into the background.

There’s nothing wrong with that, but here I invite you to try something a little different.

Sit and listen. Preferably with a cup of tea.

Notice how the music makes you feel, where it lands in your body, what it stirs or settles.

And if a piece asks for more, turn it up.

Move, stretch, sway, or dance in whatever way feels right.

There’s no correct way to listen here.

Just an invitation to be present.
